Clinical Science Graduate Student
I am a second-year doctoral student in the Clinical Science program at the University of California, Berkeley’s Department of Psychology, advised by Dr. Keanan Joyner and Dr. Stephen Hinshaw. I received my B.S. in Psychology from the University of Mary and my M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Georgia State University. Prior to beginning my doctoral training, I completed a research fellowship in Yale University’s Department of Psychology under the mentorship of Dr. Dylan Gee, where I examined how the type and timing of childhood adversity relate to volumetric differences in subcortical brain structures.
My research examines how early-life adversity influences the neurobiological and cognitive systems that underlie self-regulation and confer risk for externalizing behavior. I focus on three interconnected areas: (1) the influence of developmental timing on brain structure and function, particularly within subcortical systems; (2) how dispositional liabilities such as disinhibition and antagonism interact with environmental context; and (3) the characterization of latent mechanisms of inhibitory control using computational modeling. Methodologically, I use EEG, MRI, and drift diffusion modeling to characterize how neurobiological and cognitive processes jointly contribute to substance use vulnerability, risk taking, and related clinical outcomes.
Curriculum Vitae
Current Work
My goal is to develop mechanistic models that clarify risk pathways and inform more precise intervention efforts for individuals disproportionately exposed to adversity and contact with the justice system.
